German term

Fransentuch

German to English Other Textiles / Clothing / Fashion
I know what this is (my first association is with female Flamenco performers), but cannot come up with an English term. "Fringed shawl" appears acceptable, but is there another (better) solution?

Discussion

It's in reference to a piece of clothing worn by an actress in an old Ufa film, by the way, which the actress apparently used as a tablecloth after shooting!

Fringed shawl or fringed scarf

depending on the size.

Frayed has a negative connotation for me, as in worn.

So it definitely is a shawl, probably thick cotton, wool or silk, with fairly long fringes.
Peer comment(s):

agree jccantrell : If you are trying to sell it, use fringed; frayed sounds like it was already used.

agree Kim Metzger : It's more than connotations. The denotation of frayed is worn and shabby.
