And the physician's duty to inform a patient of the diagnosis was said to be one of the duties under a medical care contract based on the patient's right of self-determination.

II. The Physician's Duty of Disclosure
Canadian law places onerous disclosure obligations on physicians. Indeed, since the seminal Supreme Court of Canada case of Reibl v. Hughes4, the jurisprudence relevant to the consent process has expanded greatly. More than ever before, physicians are legally and ethically obligated to disclose a broad range of information to patients about the nature and effect of proposed treatment. How does this well established law of informed consent apply to the provision of CAM treatments?

informed consent (meeting)

Aufklärung is frequently used as shorthand for "Aufklärung und Einwilligung". There are defined processes (as indicated in the aforementioned flow diagram) that must take place. Following the initial and follow-up diagnosis, the patient must be informed of the diagnosis and give their consent to the therapy proposed in response to it. This is known as "informed consent" and is defined in law in Germany.

The accepted translation "explanation" is in any case too vague to be useful in this context.
