nitpicking
Ez akkor jó, ha a "kötözködés" lényege az, hogy az egyik fél mindenben hibát talál, leragad az apró részleteknél. Nem tudom, pontosan miről és hogyan folyik a párbeszéd, de ez is egy lehetőség.
Note from asker:
The conversation is between adults - but over 100 years ago... |

: I'd go with this if we are talking about adults (I had suggested 'being picky' also). But I think that this wouldn't be appropriate in an adult-child conversation. To be honest, I think it is slightly stronger in meaning than this.

I don't think it is an adult-child conversation, because in that case it would be more likely to use "akarsz". But again, without full context, it is hard to say anything...

crabby/awkward
Related terms would be things like cicizik, akadékoskodik, csomózkodik, szívóskodik and kellemetlenkedik. So being crabby, cranky, difficult, awkward...
So for the sentence 'Mire jó ez a kötözködés?' something like 'Why are you being so crabby/awkward?'

Another suggestion for "Mit akar tulajdonképpen? Mire jó ez a kötözködés?". 'What do you really want? What's the point of being so picky?'

Ha nincs semmi agresszivitás, akkor ezt tartom legjobbnak. What's this fussing?
